Saturday me Glenna amber and Shanika went to Greenmarket square and had wonderful food. Attempting to absiel table mountain but long lines and strange expenses got in the way. Me and Glenna had a couples day at camps bay, celebrating the 4th by getting our clothes wet and sandy from wading in the water, followed by a lunch of ciders and chips at a place overlooking the water. It was nuts to see such huge mountains next to the beach. Stunning. When we got home we went to Vicky’s B & B in Kaylietsha, one of the townships. It was a sweet AND SAFE experience being able to experience such a strong community in impoverished housing. We played with some kids, went to the bar there (called the waterfront) and woke up early the next morning for a sunrise walk/tour of the nearby homes by a family friend of Vicky’s. There were also two friendly/down to earth dutch guys there. Fareed drove us too and from. It was awesome. Our bathroom had a see through door.

After the “tour” Sunday morning we took naps, and then went to Green Market with amber and Glenna to get gifts, and then FINALLY went to Robben Island. We had a beautiful day, great tour guide, and certainly got our money’s worth of information. Besides a tour of the entire island, the tour of the prison was given by an ex-political prisoner of the island, which was awesome. We saw nelson mandela’s and many others’ cells. Then we came home and regrouped after a busy weekend.

Today I went to Etafeni in the morning, which yielded fun and productivity when I taught them how to create characters by leading with their bodies, and worked more to overcome the language and cultural barriers. After lunch me amber and Glenna went to sara fox and I worked with “my” kids again. It was a somewhat new group, as the two girls I had cared for a lot were gone, but I was able to help a lot and entertain the kids with an etch a sketch thing. Now we are home, and we returned the movie, rented The Office, and got some food to make for dinner because we don’t like vegetable soup. I have to work on my intern presentation tonight, as well as finger paint. Two equally important tasks. I heart wonga as our witty driver, and bongi and the other cooks because they tease me because of my large appetite.

I am in denial about leaving this week. Luckily, Glenna frequently reminds me, that sassy girl.

Oh, my Sarah, these little ones are so cute. I am teary eyed because I miss you so much and I miss Tanzania. I hope someday to return.
