I am looking into doing an intership program in Ayacucho, Peru (staying for 12 weeks) and was just wondering about the safety issues, ie: guerrilla warfare, Shining Paths. Also, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience doing a health clinic internship in Ayacucho? I would love to hear thoughts/stories.

Hi,

I'm doing a health care placement in Ayacucho also, starting in August 30th 2009. Looking to find people that will be out there at the same time as me??

Ayacucho is perfectly safe- in a group or on your own, provided you are sensible about carrying money and not flashing valuables- but that goes for every city in the world!! Shining Path is in the past- the people of Ayacucho and Peru will never let that happen again.

I didn't have a placement in a health clinic but everyone who did loved it :)
