Thanks for posting this! I haven't read this book yet, but it is on my list. I would point out that her conclusions are not at all accepted by all development scholars. There is not much doubt that foreign aid, as currently practiced, has some si...

I think that is probably a good idea. :) There is a lot to see, prices are extremely cheap, and really, when will you be back in India? I'm not sure what you mean by booking a ticket back. I had a return ticket when I went. I decided to stay long...

jeff replied to Melody Messina's discussion 'Packing' in the group Dharamsala
I used a backpack. Actually, I went originally with a suitcase-like bag, but it was cumbersome. Eventually I stuffed it with souveniers and non-essentials and mailed it home. I bought a good back-pack in Dharamsala. When I was there, there was a g...

I'm new to this site, and it looks like this conversation was awhile back, but I would also very strongly recommend Ladakh. You can get buses or jeeps to there from Manali. It is a little bit of a journey; not something you could do over a weekend...

Profile Information

About me:
I'm a 25 year old grad student studying ethics and international development. I volunteered with CCS in Dharamsala, India in 2005, and it was an amazing experience. My time teaching in India, and afterwards backpacking around the country for several months, was life-changing.

It led me to where I am now - studying development. I'm going to be going to Ghana in August (2009) to study sociology and economics and, hopefully, to work. I would like to meet Ghana volunteers to either hear about their experiences or to meet up with in Ghana if possible. I would also especially love to hear from India volunteers to share stories with. For that matter, I think anybody who has a profile on here is probably the kind of person I would like to talk to, so please feel free to contact me!
