Elsie, I saw on one of your posts that you are taking typhoid pills. Did I miss reading somewhere that these are essential or did you just find out that they make the journey easier etc? Thanks for the info.

you could bring them some children's books. the kids don't know english, so beginner reader books with lots of pictures would be best. maybe you can find some lightweight paper ones that won't weigh down your suitcase.

I'm not positive, but I think that might be the organization spearheaded by Mama Grace, who runs CCS in Moshi. I adore her. It's a very good group of people. Can't give you any specific advice, but I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Hi. I think I've visited the project. What is the name of the group?

this depends on the airline that you are traveling with and where you are traveling from. i checked the airlines website for specifics like that. many of the volunteers had different packing specifics. for me, from boston-amsterdam-kilimanjaro (and back) i was allowed 2 check in at 70 lbs and one carry on (plus one--like a purse or something)and that was on klm. remember that you are stuck carrying everything. my flight got cancelled on the return and i had to get my checked bags and bring them to a hotel and bring them back the next day and check them in again (really annoying). if you can avoid checking baggage i would. i should have. and i plan on doing so on future trips.

yeah apparently the tick wasn't the dangerous types (no lyme disease)...it happened while we were on safari...i just found it on my body. we aren't supposed to bring the wet clothes inside because it will attract the insects (and i am sure you want the insects outside much more than inside). i did hang a few items when i got desperate. you'll find that space is limited in the rooms. i was able to hang two shirts and a pair of pants. i waited until they were almost dry (damp) to bring it inside.

and the whole egg laying situation...i actually didn't come across it when i was there but i was told that this can happen. nothing hatched in my undergarments. i inspected my clothes before i put them on and they weren't suspicious. its just something that i would def be cautious of because it does sound gross.
