Hey Samantha! HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME. I loved it so much, and you can tell it was hard for me. I am Filipino-Canadian, and I didn't know much about Morocco. In fact, at News Years Eve, I told myself that I was going to make 2009 my year, and as soon as I said that, I got the advertisement on my googlemail to volunteer with CCS...in Morocco. I'm a social Worker, so I was only granted a week off of work, which wasn't enough at all. Honestly, if another country had shown up....Guatamala or something, I would have gone there first. But it was Morocco that showed up first, and so I took the chance immediately and within 48 hours I was booked :) I had such an incredible time :)

The staff there is incredible - please hug Laila for me and tell her Grace misses her hugs...I miss them so much, especially Mohamed and Khadija. (GET KHADIJA to do henna for you, she's awesome in it!).

Keep in touch,
grace.laroza@gmail.com

you never know, we may meet in another country...where will you be in August? I'm going to Ayacucho, Peru for a week :)

Hi Samantha! I was only there for a week for the Insight Abroad program, but I did get a chance to go to MEKNES. GO TO MEKNES, instead of Casablanca.

There are pictures on my site: getchy.blogspot.com

All the pictures are in March :)

You will be there for longer than me, so try to go to Marakech :) And Fes! Those are the 2 places I plan to go. I was told that Casablanca wasn't too interesting, so we didn't go. But those places, definiately go :)

OHHH, and start practicing your haggling skills when you go to the souk! :)

Hi Samantha! How are you? I am so glad you are excited, it is a wonderful experience. I had such a great time that I signed up for Peru this August and plan to go back to Morocco next year...for a much longer stay. English was a tough language barrier. - but just go with the flow. I am Canadian and didn't know much French, and you learn a bit of Arabic (I am taking Arabic lessons now), as well as converting to Islam because of the amazing experience I had in Morocco. Yep, CONVERTING TO ISLAM! I am going to do my Shabaha soon, in front of 2 of my Muslim friends...and I was born and raised Catholic! So imagine how amazing your time there will be. DOn't worry about the language barrier. You don't need to learn...just in the orpghanage, learn to say, "LA!" (no!) and "Safi" (enough) and "shokram" and you'll be fine :)

feel free to email me at grace.laroza@gmail.com

you are going to have a wonderful experience. I am definiately going back next year.

Hi Samatha! I was in the orphanage! Meryem Lalla Center for Abandoned Children. It was an incredible experience, and I would seriously recommend that you volunteer with in the disabled ward. I loved it so much. I was there for the insight abroad program and I loved it so much. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me! It was great! The other volunteers I knew were at the babies ward. I loved being there so much. It's hard, but its worth it.
