I completely agree too and have experienced of bit of this myself. I feel there are so many ways (time, money, items, etc) and areas (homelessness, education, health, etc) in which to contribute and I have challenged myself to help out both locall...

Haha Courtney. I get the church comment too. "Is that like building homes with your church?" all the time. I don't understand why the concept is so hard to understand. I am baffled by it too.

wow so I'm suppose to be walking to class right now but I stumbled across this right before I was signing out... I can TOTALLY relate to what you're saying... I can't explain much now, but basically my family members tell me things along the lines...

I understand exactly where you're coming from and had similar reactions. People with that mindset would have to live with the people and share some of their experiences in order to warm up to the idea of helping those abroad.

Time is flying.

Wow, time is flying. I can't believe it is September 1st already. So much has happened this summer. I have my passport, my shots, money (well i still need to raise more...lol) It has been good talking to so many people in my hometown area in Wisconsin about this trip. It is interesting hearing what they have to say. Many are supportive, however they are also scared for me. One of the funniest things I have heard is "wow, you are going to live amongst the tribes?" haha. I swear we learn nothing a… Continue

My name is Richard. I am 29 years old, full of passion, drive, and heart. People say my creativity to constantly reinvent myself is one of my biggest strengths. Roads are leading me to South Africa this October. I will be starting at the end of October, and staying until the middle of January. From 2001-2006 I spent my summers working at a youth camp where we had international ties with South Africa, and… Continue

Hi!
I just found your page, I'm from Appleton and am currently enrolled for the San Carlos, Costa Rica for the summer of '09. I'd love to hear about your trip, and about your experience as a volunteer from Wisconsin (what people from the area had to say about your trip, how they respond to you coming back, any kind of fundraising you did etc.) Hope you're having the time of your life,
~Zoe

I can't believe how close my trip is-- I signed up for this trip back in January, so 9 months have passed and it's unbelievable! I'm just finishing up a few details...and this week is my last week at my job and I'll be training my replacement! I've gotten past the nostalgic/nervous stage and am just plain EXCITED for everything now!!
