Karen- I did go. I went shark diving which was SO cool. The safari was amazing too. You get so close to these animals that can very easily kill you! Hey, when in South Africa, cheat death as often as possible! =]

Karen-you will have no problem finding a group to go with for that. We are taking two buses down there because of all the people that want to go. And our drivers are the ones that set it up for us, they are so helpful with everything!

Hey Tracy, I'm here in Cape Town right now! I've been here since the 11th and will be here until October, so we'll overlap. Placements are CRAZY but really fun. The weekends are basically up to you to plan, for example, last weekend I went to the ...

Profile Information

About me:
Hey I'm Nicole. I'm 18 years old, I know I'm young, but please don't make your judgments of me based on age alone. I'm a little crazy sometimes, but in a good way. I am one of those people who will burst out laughing at something that happened hours, or maybe days prior. I love to laugh. I love TOMS shoes, and TakeTheWalk.net and I am obsessed with Hanson. Again, don't judge haha. I am really laid back and easy going, I get along with pretty much everyone and love meeting new people. Feel free to talk to me =]

Ahhhhhhh! I'm flying into Terminal 3 on Air Canada, and out of Terminal 5 on South African Airways. Their website is all lies!!!

I just finished packing... Intense! Yeah, there are like moving walkways and trains/buses that shuttle people between the terminals. We shouldn't have too many issues getting there.

I get there around 9:30, so I'll have enough time to pick up my bags, check-in with South African Airways and clear security and customs again. Do we wanna say 1:30ish? I'll wear my CCS t-shirt too, so we can look like two huge nerds together. Hahahahaha!

Hrmmmm..... This is so frustrating! Alright, so I fly out of T1 and you fly out of T5. Let's try to meet up in T3. I have no idea if it's possible to move from one terminal to another once we've gone through security, but we're going to try! Assuming we can check-in and clear security, there's a Starbucks in T3, in the departures area. Maybe we can try to meet there?

Alright, so you'll be flying out of Terminal 5, and I'll be flying out of Terminal 1. There must be some place in the middle that we could meet up! I'm not sure if we're better off getting through security first, then trying to meet up somewhere in the departures area.... I wonder if that's doable? Ahhhhhhhh..... I've never been to Heathrow!

How long is your layover... Mine is a brutal 12 hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. I'm going to check out the Heathrow website... Maybe there's a restaurant or something we could meet at. Which airline are you flying to Cape Town with?

Can't believe it's almost here! We should try to meet up at Heathrow... I'm not sure how to attempt to do that, I won't have my cellphone.

Nope, I'm on a South African Airways flight that leaves Heathrow at 9:00p.m. I'll be arriving in Cape Town a little after 10:00 a.m. Looks like we'll be at Heathrow at the same time though!

Hey Nicole -- Did you say that you have a layover in London? I have a 12-hour layover at Heathrow before my flight to Cape Town.

Brazil was amazing! I was there for 8 weeks so I got to see just about all the placements. I really felt like I made a difference and I still have contact with some of the kids from my English class.

You couldn't ask for better house staff. There is also plenty to do when you are not volunteering. The historic area of Salvador is a short cab ride or a long walk from the house. There is always something going on there. Just head down the hill from the house and you are at the beach or mall. There are also islands, beaches, waterfalls, rivers, caves... anything you can imagine close enough for a weekend trip.

In the 8 weeks I was there, I didn't meet anyone who didn't absolutely love it there. Most people extended their trips. If you do end up going and want advice on what to take and where to go for weekend trips, let me know.

Many , many thanks for this blog of yours Emily. Taking photos in another cultural environment does require a lot of sensability, and respect of the individuals which you want in your shot. To often over the years, I have seen volunteers taking ph...
