Hi - if anyone has been to Salavdor, can you let me know what it is like. I am thinking of doing it this summer but no one has really said much about it!

CCS Brazil was awesome! I spent 8 weeks there. The CCS house is in a nice middle class neighborhood. The staff is amazing! I spent time at almost all the placements but spent the most time at CEIFAR where I taught an English class. I also previously…

Hi Naomi,
What was your placement? How long were you there? Where did you travel when you weren't "on the job"? Did you have any problems getting from one airport to another? Love some details. Thanks.

Hello, on my trip, including me there was four of us for 2 weeks then there were 3 of us for my last week. How many are in your group? Have you had the meet your volunteers email replies yet?

A tuk tuk is a 3 wheel taxi, like a little motor bike with 2 seats in the back and a roof over the top. You will see loads of them.
No need to pre-book your taxi. When you arrive at the airport (Suvarnabhumi - International Flights) if you go through immigration and all that and head straight out of the doors you will see taxi's there. You will get approached, just go with them. Easy! If your taxi driver goes on the highway you will have to pay the toll which is approx 40baht each time (just under £1) the driver might ask you for the money when he gets to each toll or he will pay it and add it onto your bill. There might be a couple of these tolls.
Do you mean the meet your fellow volunteers email?? that no-ones replied to.
lol, dont be scared, really your gonna have the most amazing time of your life.

My placement was a bit intimidating at first, but all the boys were so well behaved and soon warmed to us. It was really great fun.
The food is really nice, lots of rice and chicken. mama t does the cooking and you can help her if you wish to learn how to cook thai food.
The homebase is a really nice house, it has all the comforts of home. Your bedroom is basic but you dont need much in there anyway.
Thai people are very friendly and polite. I dont think i met an unhappy person there. I didnt have any jabs for Thailand, not sure if you actually need any. I should say i went to Africa last year though and had about 6. You CCS handbook should say what jabs you need though, if any.
To be careful of, if your in Bangkok dont get a Tuk Tuk. The drivers will try to get you to go on tours with them for about 20-40 baht. They take you to some free tourist attractions which is fine, but then they will take you to shops and say just go in there and then the people in the shops try to sell you things. They give a really hard sell on you, its really bad. If you buy something the tuk tuk driver gets a stamp in his little book and gets commission on what you bought, if you dont buy anything you get taken to more shops. They tried it with me but i didnt buy anything, for 3 hours this tuk tuk driver was driving me around. I kept saying take me back to my hotel but he just kept saying one more shop. That was my only bad experience, on my first day too. So if you know about it you can easily avoid it.
The rest of my time there was awesome, you will love it.

Hi
I was a bit scared on my first trip. It soon passes though when you meet up with the other volunteers.
I visited Koh Phi Phi on one of my weekends and did the tour around the islands. I recommend doing that if you like paradise beaches.
I worked at the Young Offenders Detention Centre. If you get that one i could tell you what to expect and how to prepare.

Hi Naomi
Your gonna love Trang. Everything about the place is amazing. Do you know what your placement is yet? Is this your first CCS?
The only advice i can give you is to enjoy every single minute because the time passes so fast. You will love the staff there, they are all amazing people.
I will try upload some pics on my profile if it lets you do that. Most of my pics are on FB though. If you have any questions i would be more than happy to answer them for you.
