- Laura - the one thing i would tell you is that any spanish you can learn before you go will be extremely useful. If you know some, learn more! I've never been to a place in my many years of traveling where so few people knew English. And that's a good thing.

- Hola! Ayacucho is defenitely the perfect place to go if you really want ot help :-) I worked mostly with the nurses and in obstetrics. The first 2-3 weeks i was with the nurses going around town giving vaccines and doing check-ups at public schools and wahwah wahsies. Then as the other people in the clinic became more familiar with me as a person and my intentions and my passion for the expecting mothers and newborn babies I worked in obstatrics more. I am certified as an instructor for first aid and CPR, however they do not ask that you know anything. I would highly suggest learning some spanish if you dont know any, becuase this is the largest barrier to overcome. They are very welcoming to americans and love for you to hold their babies and talk to them!

- Hey Laura :-) Ayacucho is amazing and will hold a special place in your heart after going there! I have actually considered returning during the same time period, but it will all be based on finances after I finish other classes this summer. Are you planning on volunteering in a health clinic? Do you know any spanish? Have you been abroud before? I look forward to hearing back from you so I can give you some tips about your trip!!
