Erin,
You mentioned travel from Delhi at the weekends, I found a web-site which you may find interesting as it shows the range of viable destinations over a weekend from Delhi and an awful lot more information as well. It is;

http://www.holidayiq.com/Delhi-Weekend-Getaways-20.html

I hope it works for you! You can let me know if it doesn't and if that is the case send me your e-mail address and I'll send you a link.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Erin,
It was great to see my daughter and the Grandkids, even if it was only for the weekend. I do miss them, but realise that both my son and daughter need to be in or near London for their chosen careers. Our town is so small by comparison, but then I know most of the people there and London can be intimidating if you're a stranger. The weekends being based in Delhi should offer more opportunities for seeing so much more of India than being in Dharamsala and with hindsight the old artificial knees wouldn't have stood the uneven surface of the Western Himalayas. Anthropology seems a really interesting subject. All the minutae of this assignment has been concluded and the ticket bought so it just remains to get myself out there on the 31st. I look forward to seeing you and the others there, and have a "Nollaig Chriedhl agus Bliadhna mhath Ur" as they say in Gaelic (Scottish as opposed to Irish)

Erin,
Erin is of course the Irish name for Ireland, hence the question! No I don't know what type of placement I'll be on, but am fairly open to whatever they need. This is just an attempt somewhat late in life, to do something more meaningful than work in the Oil Industry! My family are all supportive of it and my wife doesn't fly anywhere now preferring to rent a cottage in the Highlands a couple of times a year. My son and daughter are both based in London so I only get to see them once or maybe twice a year. Tonight Fiona and her kids are flying up so we're all looking forward to that! I also have a couple of friends who work about 30km from Delhi (in the Oil Industry too I'm afraid), but it was the weekend being spare time and the artifical knees not being up to the task that made me change to Delhi. What are you studying at university?

Erin,
The photograph you've put up is spooky since it is almost a younger version of my daughter! With the name Erin, is there a hint of Irish in the background?

Hi Erin--
Thanks for your comment.
I am excited although now a little apprehensive given the latest attacks in Mumbai. I know Delhi and Mumbai are fairly far apart, but it does make you pause.
I am hoping to be placed in a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. If I am not placed there, I would like to work with children in some manner (caring for, teaching, etc.).
What would you like to do? When will you arrive in Delhi?
Cindy
