This Experience

This experience has been so wonderful, and it has taught me so many valuable lessons. Seeing everybody react to the kindess and sadness of the abuelitos and abuelitas, seeing how this short trip has affected all of us, I know that this week-long trip will change us all together. It is sad that I´m only here for one week, because I just started getting used to all this. I rteally want to go to Tanzania with CCS, so maybe I can do that someday, hopefully for a longer period of time. Also, I was th… Continue

Home Visits

Hey guys! Today I did some home visits with some other people who are volunteering at Los Martincetos. Home visits are when you go to the homes of some of the people who go to Los Martincetos who are living in horrible conditions, and are having a pretty tough time. It was really sad to see all those awesome people living where they are. It made me realize how lucky I am to have a proper home and enough food every single day. Also, I noticed that the people who have their family supporting them… Continue

First Day of Work

Today was the first day of work at Los Martincitos, the awesome elderly center where I´m volunteering, along with all the other Insight volunteers. I did so much today, but the gratitude that the the people expressed was the perfect reward to all my hard work. As soon as we entered the center, before we had even introduced ourselves or met them, they7 hobbled over to us and hugged and kissed us. It was so sweet! You could totally tell that anything y0ou did to help there, even just haniging out… Continue

Colombia Airport

Right now I am in the airport in Colombia, waiting for my flight directly to Lima. My sister, my dad, and I are all wearing our shirts, but we haven´t seen any other CCS volunteers yet. I am so excited. I´ve been waiting and planning for this day for months, and now it´s finally happening!!! It is so strange to see all these familiar advertisements in Spanish, and it´s really complicated for us to get to where our plane will be when we´re speaking with people who don´t know much or any English.… Continue

My Fellow Lima Volunteers

Lately I've been getting tons of emails from the other volunteers who are going to be in Lima at the same time as me. They all seem so interesting, and I can't wait to meet all of them. They are from all over, and I know I will have a fun time not only learning about the Peruvian culture, but also theirs. I can't wait to meet my fellow volunteers, because they all seem so nice, and I know that they will enrichen my experience in Lima. Many of them had already gone on a trip with CCS, so I bet th… Continue

Hi Eleanor!! How are you? The only other one I have been on was Tanzania which was awesome- very different from Lima they were both incredible but no matter how hard I tried at first I kept comparing the two and you can't because they are 2 completely different experiences but I would like to do another one but it will be a while $$$$$. Morrocco is on my list it looks great. When are you thinking of going?

Hey Eleanor! I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Lima- mine was amazing as well! I taught English at a school in Villa called Fe y Alegria, it was probably closed when you were there due to school vacation. Anyway, I am probably going to volunteer some more next year and because I speak Spanish, it will most likely be in Latin America again. Keep me updated on where you choose to go!

Hi Eleanor! I see that you've volunteered in Lima for a week and I was wondering what you did in your free time? Did you have time to visit Machu Picchu? I've also signed up for a week of volunteering in Lima beginning on December 12, and I was wondering if I would be able to fit in time to check out the scenery in Peru. How did you coordinate your free time? Thank you.

Hi! I was thinking of you guys last night. One of my coworkers told me that she's going on a Russia CCS trip for two weeks at the end of the summer. I'm so jealous. Now I want to start planning my next trip. Hope everything is well with you and your family. You must be getting excited for summer!

Hi Eleanor! Me too :( I often find myself day dreaming of our time in Lima. What a trip! I can't wait to do another CCS adventure.
Wow! Sounds like you had a great time! It must have been nice to hang out with Hannah, it must have brought you back! :) Actually, just the other day I was going through one of my drawers and found a couple pairs of the earrings the abuelas made. That was a big reminder. It was almost like I could smell the homebase!
So good to hear from you! Hope you and the family are great! Send hellos? Miss you! XO
