Hey Courtney,
I'm there for 4 weeks also, but I'm leaving June 13th I think. I haven't looked into too many LOCATIONS I want to visit, I'm looking more for activities, and besides ziplining I've looked into horseback riding, rafting trips, and beaches. The ziplining place I looked up is called Selvatura and it's in Monteverde. They're the biggest ziplining tour in Costa Rica and for less than $100 they offer a ziplining tour, a bridge tour, a tour through hummingbird and butterfly gardens, and lunch, so I think they look awesome!! What's in Manuel Antonio and Puerto Viejo? I don't plan on doing anywhere too cray on the weekends, but Alex told me anywhere from $150 to $200 on the weekends, depending on what you do, so I'm TRYING to have that much available for all 3 and a half weekends I'm there.
See you soon!!
Jill

Seriously small world! Whitman is in Walla Walla...just 45 minutes from the Tri-Cities! Although I graduated in the 90's so it's been a little while. :) I live in Seattle now (which is where I'm from).
I haven't booked a flight yet...I'm just getting started with all of this. I discovered the program on Monday, have been researching it this week, and just paid my deposit today. I'm very excited! It will be great to meet you.

Hi,
About how many volunteers were there when you were?
The size of my group was 10. Perfect. We all arrived at the same time, then about every three weeks, someone left from the original group.

I was also curious about the home base. How are the rooms situated as far as how many per room? And a bit of a random question; how was the food?
The home base is two story. Two large rooms upstairs with 4 beds each, downstairs is three bed room with two beds each, on the far side of the kitchen, is another huge room with about 5 beds.. The food was wonderful, fresh fruit at every meal. Also we asked for cooking lessons, great fun. The coffee was awesome..I bought several bags at the market for gifts. I ate everything. I usually sign up for veggie incase I don't like the meat dishes.

I kinda remember someone asking about the food at the other base home, and the manager said it was about the same, Costa Rican Cuisine.
Four women in our group, took the weekend trip to the Park (name??) where they went from platform to platform high up in the tree tops on ziplines. They had a blast!! Check the "what to do on the weekend book" when you get there, check the date around august 26th to September 15 2008, there should be notations.
You will have a great time. don't worry...remember to check out the bakeries in town, and offer to help the kitchen staff clean up after dinner. If you have any questions, talk to Viera or her assistant. Also heed all safety and security rules, I know it sounds lame, but two students in CCS Brazil, when I was there, were removed from the program and sent home. The worst part of it, we were all glad to see them go! It only takes one to ruin it.
I can go on and on blah.blah.blah.
See ya! LaVerne

Hi Linda,
Puriscal was wonderful, I volunteered in September 2008, for two weeks. The home base is nice. And it rains whenever, take a small compact unbrella or rain poncho, days are hot and nights are cool, as Puriscal is in the mountains. I had a great assignment with a school, working with the English teacher. We had a different class each period from 3rd to 6th graders. I did plan several lessons, and I left some excellent information regarding lessons in the binder for that school. Some of the other volunteers worked at the retirement center, they had a great time, there is a binder with information for all the volunteer sites, which is very helpful on what works and what does not. How long are you staying?? Veira the Director is awesome! As Linda mentioned, we met here in Peru. As a side trip on the weekend, we went to Manual Antonio Park, stayed at the Mango Moon B & B...too old for hosteling. Beautiful park, but watch out for the monkeys, they are naunty!!
Hope that is helpful..if you have any other questions, let me know.
Good Luck, LaVerne

Hi Courtney I was planning to go to Puriscal last year and then it did not work out. I am still hoping to go sometime this year. One of my roommates when I was in Peru is the Director of the Puriscal site and she was great. Another person from Peru I believe volunteered in Puriscal Her name is LaVerne Lewis. I'm sure she will be very helpful to you. Good Luck Linda

Thanks again to everyone. My Arabic teacher- he's from a little town east of Fes- told me tonight it would be crazy to go try to do the trip in a weekend and go to Marrakech. I told him I think a weekend without a toilet is all my daughter can take…
