Hi Carissa! Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! And sorry that I missed your first comment - I had no idea it was even on here until I read the second one.
It looks like Brenna will be heading out of NY so I can give her the package. Thanks so much for offering though!
How long are you going to be in Ghana?
The trip was incredible. The biggest piece of advice I can offer is just that you take advantage of every opportunity. Travel where you want to travel, spend as much time with the locals as possible, learn as much as you can. It's worth it to wake up early and help bathe the kids in the orphanages/boarding schools and to spend extra time at your placement (or other placements) whether it's playing games, working on projects or tucking them in at night. Be creative and open to whatever comes your way.
I definitely recommend taking the 4 day adventure to Mole. That was without a doubt a highlight of my trip. BUT it's not for everyone. It's quite the excursion and you just have to go with the flow because you can't really plan anything in advance (no online bus ticketing or anything like that - you just get to one city and then figure out how to get to the next). I am lame and didn't complete the trip evaluation while I was there so I am going to be sending that with Brenna.
I recommend a pair of Chacos. The are more sturdy than flip flips and kept my feet cleaner. They handle the muddy patches well and don't slip off in the rain. I still recommend bringing a pair of regular flip flops to wear around the house.
Don't be disappointed when you see the resource room. Just think of all the shops in town as your resource room. If you find something you like just let Christine know and she will either purchase it for you or reimburse you the cost. The point is sustainability and I am a believer that you should use resources readily available in town.
Make sure you have a Visa card. It's basically the only thing accepted over there.
I recommend you try to do your laundry in little batches. I let mine pile up for the first load and my back was aching by the time I finished. Also, your whites will come back light brown not matter what you do.
Oh man, there are so many things I could talk about...it's hard to narrow them down. Do you have any questions??

Hi! I'll be in Ghana at the same time, arriving on the 26th and staying for 6 weeks! I can see there's a few of us already going, it's pretty exciting! It'd be great if we can all share ideas on what to bring with us, and maybe get some ideas out for some trips! How are the preparations going? I'm pretty freaked out right now as it's so soon, but I really can't wait!
