HI Becky,
I'll arrive about a month after you and stay until June 2010 also. The blog posted by Karla on this site was awesome! You should definitely read through it, if you haven't already :)

Hi Becky,
I was in Russia for 7 weeks last summer, you will love it there. The home base is bright , cheerful and clean and the showers have great water pressure. The staff there are absolutely wonderful people and Yarosloval is clean, safe and interesting. You can get just about anything you might need there from the Kareseul dept. store (also has ATM for cash from your debit card) , 5 minute walk from home base. Bring your laptop, the internet cafe is a short ride to the city center, they also have coffee and pastries there same as Starbucks. Home base is safe and secure , no one but volunteers & staff get through the steel security door, you also get a cabinet to lock your valuables in. There is a small washer and dryer so you can wash your clothes, I took too many clothes. I am going back this Summer for 11 weeks and will travel as light as possible this time. Bring safety pins from home if you travel to St. Petersburg or Moscow, I pin my pockets shut to thwart the Gypsy pickpockets, if you see a group of 3 or 4 young men in those 2 cities don't walk within 10 feet of them! For your computer go to Karesuel and get a European surge protector VERY IMPORTANT!! You also must bring with you one or two voltage converters because they use only 220 VAC in Russia. Do not plug anything you have into the converter unless you have first purchased the surge protector or it may burn out. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Hello All,
My start date is April 4, 2010 to June 20, 1010 and I have found myself in a conundrum as to what to pack from the type of practical clothing to electronics. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks!

Yes, thank you for posting the blog! Your experiences at the women's hospital mirrored mine. I remember the first time I went to the women's hospital - I had already been to the children's hospital, and I didn't think that an institution could be worse than the children's hospital. WRONG! The women's hospital is definitely worse. But the women are SO lovely and SO nice, that once you're inside with the ladies, dancing and making crafts and playing games, you totally forget you're in this dilapidated asylum. I miss the women's hospital and the children's hospital - they were my favorite places. I hope to go back soon.

Thank you so much Karla! I really enjoyed reading your blog and shared it with those close to me, so that they too would have a better idea of what to expect when I'm gone. Congrats also on the news of your second child!!

Hi Karla,
I would love to read your report! If you can't post it here, could you forward the report via email to christen1216@hotmail.com? Thank you so much for your response :)

Hey Eve!
I will sure try - I am not the best with computers/posting stuff but will give it a go. Just keep in mind that it was written for those who have yet to volunteer, and that it was composed in late 2008, so I'm sure that many things (including the home base) have changed since I wrote it, but I have tried to update things a bit to reflect the time line!

Thanks for your interest!

Karla, I would LOVE to read your report on your experiences! You could post the thing in its entirety on the blog feature here ... ? :)

Hi Christen!

I would love to share more of my experience in Yaroslavl with you - if you're interested in reading a short report about my trip, please let me know. I became one of the contact people for interested volunteers to get in touch with when I returned from my trip, and have prepared a couple of slideshows and a text document that I now share with others who are curious about the CCS Russia experience. If you're interested, I'd be more than happy to forward them to you!
