Hi Jennifer, you are correct! The little boy in the photo is Gererdo! He is such a sweet boy and made my trip to Guatemala City special! How could you resist that simile? :)

I had the other-worldly opportunity of working at the awe-inspiring La Escuela Leonor Cienfuegos. God, there seriously is not a day I don't think of my kids. I miss them a great deal, and am intent upon returning eventually.

The little boy in the photo above looks like my little friend Gerardo, who I miss so much from Marina Guirola :) Can anyone confirm that this is him?

I was in Guatemala City in February 09 and absolutely loved it, I think about the children at Marina Guirola where my placement was every day and miss them very much. I went to Tikal for the weekend ( I was only there for 2 weeks) and it was amazing. I am keeping in touch with my fellow volunteers on facebook, which is good. I reccommend Guatemala City to anyone and have all intentions of returning there one day.

I went to Guatemala in February (not with CCS) but loved it. If you have free time I'd recommend going to Antigua, its a small and beautiful city and a hot spot for tourists (about 45 minutes from Guatemala City). Its got a lot of nice restaurants, and tiendas for your souvenirs. Also if you have time and are up for a physically demanding challenge I'd recommend hiking the active volcano Vulcan de Pacaya.
