hi! I'm going to Ghana on Sept 26 for 6 weeks, I'd love to meet anyone who's also going to be there at the same time, so we can maybe start organizing some trips! I'm really looking forward for the trip, It'd be great if anyone had some advice too :)

Rachel, a phone from the UK does work. I actually bought a Ghanaian simcard while I was there. It was about £4 and it was about £1.50 to call a land line in the uk for about 5 minutes. Have a look at my blog to read about my 6 weeks there. I LOVED it!!!

Mid-thigh length (or longer) shorts are okay to wear at home base and when wandering around town. You cannot wear them to placement tho, so be sure to pack skirts and capris/pants.

Hi, I'll be in Ghana Sept 26 - Oct 17. Would love to hear from anybody who will be there at the same time or who is there now. Im so excited but very nervous. I would like to know that I am going prepared but the handbook is quite vague! Does anybody know what the phone situation is there? Will a mobile from the UK work? What exactly we pack? etc etc. Would appreciate any advise. Thanks :)

I'm landing in Accra in 3 short weeks and I am just so over this waiting process (although I need the extra time considering I am no where near ready to get on the plane). First I want to offer a huge thanks for everyone who has offered their views and experience. I'm so glad to have the benefit of your wisdom.

I'll be in Hohoe for 12 weeks in the Intern-Abroad program so I'm hoping to have plenty of time to travel and experience Ghana. I have loved looking at the posts from everyone's trips. Keep them coming.

Does anyone have anything to share about what they struggled with? What drove you nuts at times? What was mentally challenging? What are those things you wish you had known (like Chelsie's issue of not having a Visa card)?

I'm trying to raise enough funds to go to Ghana for 5 weeks starting December 19th this year. I would like to spend my holidays abroad there and was wondering if anyone was going around the same time. I'd love to chat and hear about prior trips already made as well! Feel free to contact me :)

Some of the issues around Accra, Ghana . I didn't volunteer in Ghana but I spent two weeks in and around Accra this march.

Thought this might be useful for any of you interested in sociology, environmental, and economics research in developing nations. A very real picture of how hard life is there, and not all fun and rosies.

Front Line: On the outskirts of Ghana's biggest city sits a smoldering wasteland, a slum carved into the banks of the Korle Lagoon, one of the most polluted bodies of water on earth. The locals call it Sodom and Gomorrah.

I just spent 6 weeks in Ghana. Please feel free to contact me if you have ANY questions.

*Visa is basically the only card accepted in Ghana. I didn't get that memo and it turned out to be quite a hassle.
