I did a sponsored sky to raise my program fee and raised about $2,200. I paid for the actual sky dive myself and then asked people to sponsor me if I completed it!

I had always wanted to do a sky dive but never got round to it or had a reason - fundraising for my Brazil program was a great reason!!!

I definitely recommend it as people were like wow, you are jumping out of a plane AND volunteering in Brazil - let me sponsor you!!!

Joss, that is the coolest way I've ever heard of fundraising :) What a great idea. I also went skydiving (not for fundraising, but I'll keep that in mind for next time). I decided not to get the video but now I kind of wish I had to watch it. I do have my "before" and "after" pictures though. It was exhilarating!

That is really cool! Definitely very creative! We should start a sky diving club, haha! I did it too in NZ, and it really was one of the most amazing things ever.

Hi Joss,

What a fun idea! I definitely have no interest in sky diving... actually quite terrified of it, but it's a really fun idea! I have also heard of people shaving their beards, heads or chopping off all their hair. One idea that I heard aobut is a volunteer who worked in an office would bring homemade cookies and around 3PM everyday would put them in the microwave so the smell would circulate through the office, and then she sold them for a donation. It's a slow way to accumulate donations, but it definitely brings awareness, and who knows somebody might want to give you $25 for a warm chocolate chip cookie at the end of a long work day!

Wow, what a great idea Joss! I'm wondering if you could give me more details on how exactly you approached people with this. Did you have pamphlets/handouts, go door-to-door, put up posters, etc. This sounds like something I'd love to try but I wouldn't know how to go about doing it.
Thank you! :)

I know - wasn't it!!
I got to do something I had thought of doing, to do something just as amazing!

I worked in a shop while I was fundraising, so I put a poster and sponsorship form up in the shop. I explained on the poster, what I was doing, how much I needed to raise and had a link to CCS. So I raised quite a bit that way. The customers left their change for me and one person came in with a $100 check for me!

I also got myself in a couple of local newspapers to reach the whole community. You could do this with a link to your MyCCS webpage.

I gave sponsorship forms to my friends and family who took them in to work and asked their friends and families too!

After I had done the sky dive, I posted photos on my blog for all my sponsors to see. Then when I came back from volunteering I sent everyone a photo montage of time in Brazil to say thank you!

You could also send emails to everyone you know and ask them to pass it on as well.

People were like ' you are crazy - here's lots of money'!!

Another thing I did was give people tubes of Smarties - I don't know what the US equivalent candy is. I would ask people to eat the candy and then fill the tube with their spare change. I didn't feel so bad about asking them for money as I was giving them candy in return!

Good luck and let me know if you need any other ideas!
